Jedeïda lies on the lower Medjerda, Tunisia's longest river, in the fertile plain west of Tunis. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets on the riverbank. The railway line heading west from the capital runs through it, and roads lead toward Tunis and Tebourba. All around, the map breaks into orchards, fields and irrigation channels, farmland that has long supplied the capital.
The town belongs to Manouba Governorate and has long been a market for the surrounding farms, where olives, cereals and vegetables are the main crops. In late 1942 the area around Jedeïda saw heavy fighting in the Tunisian campaign of the Second World War. Allied forces advancing on Tunis were stopped near here.

Railway and roads
The railway west from Tunis and the roads toward Tebourba and the capital cross the town. Their long straight lines cut through the otherwise irregular street pattern.
Farmland pattern
Orchards and irrigated fields surround the town in irregular plots. They give the outer map a soft, patchwork texture around the compact centre.
