Juan-les-Pins is part of Antibes, on the Côte d'Azur between Cannes and Nice. It covers the western side of the Cap d'Antibes peninsula and faces the bay of Golfe-Juan. From above, the shoreline defines it. A long, gentle curve of beach is backed by a compact grid of resort streets, and villas and gardens spread uphill toward the cape.
The resort grew in the early twentieth century and became a summer destination in the 1920s, when its beaches drew artists and writers from abroad. Since 1960 it has hosted Jazz à Juan, one of Europe's oldest jazz festivals. The festival takes place in the pine grove by the sea, and the pines also gave the resort part of its name.
