Kawachi-Nagano is at the southern tip of Osaka Prefecture, where the flat Osaka plain gives way to the Kongō and Izumi mountain ranges. From above, the city is clearly split. Dense residential streets and rail lines fill the northern lowland, while the south is mostly forested ridges and narrow valleys with few roads.
Two private railway lines meet at the town's central station, and one of them continues south into the mountains towards Mount Kōya. The area is also known for old temples tucked into the hills, including Kanshin-ji and Amano-san Kongō-ji, both linked to the long history of the Kawachi region.
