Kuda sits in the flatter western edge of Nagaland, close to Dimapur, where the state meets the plains of the Brahmaputra basin. On a map this is one of the few parts of Nagaland without steep contours. Roads run in fairly straight lines, plots are laid out in loose rectangles, and the pattern is more like a lowland settlement than the ridge-top villages further east.
From above, the town reads as a scatter of lanes feeding a few main roads, with open fields and patches of trees filling the gaps. To the east and south the land begins to rise, and the street pattern gives way to the curving lines of hill tracks. Being close to Dimapur shapes the place.
