Lomme is a former independent commune on the western side of Lille, joined to the city as an associated commune in 2000 while keeping its own local identity. On a map it reads as part of the continuous urban fabric of the Lille metropolis, but with a clear character: long streets of terraced brick houses, industrial sites and large hospital and commercial complexes at its edges.
The A25 motorway toward Dunkirk runs along the town, a heavy line crossing the map, and rail lines add further straight strokes.
