Luanda Map Poster & Print
Luanda lies on Angola's Atlantic coast. From above, its most recognisable feature is the bay, sheltered by the Ilha de Luanda, a long, narrow sand spit that runs parallel to the shore. The city centre curves around the bay, with the waterfront promenade known as the Marginal following the shoreline.
The Portuguese founded Luanda in 1576, and the Fortaleza de São Miguel still stands on a hill overlooking the bay. Below it lies the Baixa, the lower town, with a tighter pattern of streets. Above it, the Cidade Alta, the upper town, holds official buildings on higher ground.
Beyond the centre, Luanda has grown rapidly inland, with newer planned districts and large, dense informal areas. On the map, these form a wide spread of irregular streets. A Luanda map poster shows how the city grew from its bay and old fort into a large coastal capital.

The waterfront avenue follows the curve of the bay, separating the city centre from the water. It gives the map a smooth, curved edge.
Fortaleza de São Miguel
The old Portuguese fortress stands on a hill above the bay. It marks one of the earliest points of the city and overlooks the lower town.
