Mai, more commonly written Mai Mahiu or Maai Mahiu, is a small town in Nakuru County, on the floor of Kenya's Great Rift Valley. This map centres slightly differently, but the landscape is the same: a compact cluster of streets and buildings on flat ground, with the high escarpment rising steeply to the east.
A well-known landmark nearby is the small chapel on the escarpment road, built by Italian prisoners of war during the Second World War while they worked on the road down into the valley. It remains a point of interest for travellers passing along the route.
