Mandelieu-la-Napoule lies on the Côte d'Azur just west of Cannes, where the coastline turns toward the red rocks of the Esterel massif. The commune has two parts. Mandelieu spreads inland across the lower valley of the Siagne River, and La Napoule is a seaside village on the coast, gathered around its small harbour and castle.
From above the map is a study in contrasts. The Siagne and its channels cross flat ground toward the sea, lined with marinas, golf courses and residential streets. To the west the wooded slopes of the Esterel rise steeply, and to the north the Tanneron massif, known for its winter mimosa, fills the view with winding roads and forested hills.
The Château de la Napoule, restored in the early twentieth century by the American artists Henry and Marie Clews, stands on the waterfront and now houses an arts foundation.
