Matozinhos is a municipality in Minas Gerais, a short drive north of Belo Horizonte, in a region of limestone ridges, caves and gently rolling ground. On a map the town appears as a compact centre whose streets bend to follow the terrain, with main roads leaving in several directions toward the neighbouring municipalities of the metropolitan area.
The limestone underfoot has long shaped the local economy, and quarries and industrial sites appear as large, irregular shapes on the town's outskirts.
