Ridge-top roads
The main roads follow the crest lines of the hills. The long, curving spines they form hold the town together.

Mokokchūng Map Poster & Print
Mokokchūng is in the hills of Nagaland, in the far north-east of India. The town is built along a series of ridges, and its roads follow them closely. They curve around hillsides, loop back on themselves and climb from one level to the next. On a map, the settlement looks like a web thrown over high ground, with steep valleys forming open spaces between its parts.
The town is the main cultural centre of the Ao Naga people, and it is known for the Moatsu festival, celebrated in early May after sowing. It is also regarded as one of the intellectual centres of Nagaland, having produced many of the state's writers, educators and public figures.
A Mokokchūng map poster reflects all the complexity of hill terrain. No two streets run parallel for long, and the relief of the land comes through in every hairpin and fork. It is a lively, intricate composition, very different from any plains town.

Switchback connections
Smaller roads zigzag steeply between ridges and valleys, adding tight curves and loops to the map.
Valley gaps
Forested slopes and valleys stay largely unbuilt. They leave open areas between neighbourhoods and give the poster depth.
