Moreni Map Poster & Print
Moreni is a town in Dâmbovița County, in the hill country where the Wallachian plain rises toward the Carpathians. It is one of Romania's historic oil towns: petroleum has been extracted here since the nineteenth century, and the oilfields shaped the town's growth, economy and layout.
On the map the town follows the valley floors, with streets stretched along the lower ground and thinner lines climbing onto the surrounding slopes. Industrial areas and oilfield land appear as open, irregular spaces with a scattering of access tracks, quite unlike the tighter residential blocks in the centre.
Moreni is remembered for the great oil well fire of 1929, known as the Torch of Moreni, which burned for more than two years before it was extinguished. A Moreni map poster gives this industrial town a clean, architectural presence, showing how settlement and oilfield sit side by side.
