Musina lies at the far northern tip of South Africa, a short distance south of the Limpopo River and the Beit Bridge crossing into Zimbabwe. The town has a straightforward shape: a regular grid of streets on flat, dry ground, with the main north–south road running through it toward the border and open bushveld around every edge.
The town developed around copper mining in the early twentieth century, and today it is best known as a border and transit town on one of southern Africa's key trade routes. The surrounding landscape is famous for its large baobab trees, and the Mapungubwe cultural landscape, a World Heritage Site, lies to the west.

The main road runs north through the town toward the Limpopo and Beit Bridge. It is the strongest line on the map and shows the town's role on a key route.
