Naples sits on the south-west coast of Florida and is the seat of Collier County. The map is framed by water. The Gulf of Mexico runs along the entire western edge, with a long, straight beach, and Naples Bay and the Gordon River cut in from the south and east. Between them, Old Naples is laid out in a clear grid of avenues and streets.
The Naples Pier, stretching into the Gulf at the end of 12th Avenue South, is one of the city's best-known landmarks, and the shopping streets of Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South anchor the historic centre.
