Oakville is an unincorporated community in the southeastern corner of St. Louis County, Missouri. It sits on high ground along the Mississippi River, where wooded bluffs drop toward the water and the Illinois shore lies opposite. To the south, the Meramec River curves in to join the Mississippi, giving the community water on two sides.
The street network is typical of postwar suburban growth: curving roads, cul-de-sacs and subdivisions set among patches of woodland, organised around a handful of main arterial roads. On a map this creates an organic, branching pattern that looks very different from the straight grid of the older city of St. Louis further north.
Riverside county parks and wooded ravines line the edges, and the two rivers frame the community distinctly.
