Pathānkot sits at the northern tip of Punjab, close to where the state meets Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The city lies on the flat plain just before the land begins to rise into the foothills, and that position has made it a gateway for travellers heading to Dalhousie, Kangra and the valleys beyond.
From above, the map is organised by routes. National highways and railway lines converge on the town, and a broad-gauge railway meets the narrow-gauge Kangra Valley line that climbs into the hills. Large military cantonment areas, with their spacious, orderly layout, occupy a significant part of the surrounding land.
