Qahā lies in Qalyubia Governorate, at the southern end of the Nile Delta where fields begin just beyond Greater Cairo. The town is compact, with narrow streets packed around its centre and main roads leading out towards neighbouring settlements. Beyond the built-up area, the map is dominated by irrigation canals and small, regularly divided fields.
The railway running north from Cairo passes close by, linking the town with the capital and the Delta cities. Qahā is also known across Egypt as the name of a long-established food-processing company whose canned goods carry the town's name.
