Queimadas lies in the Agreste of Paraíba, the transition zone between the humid coastal belt and the dry sertão. It sits a short drive south of Campina Grande, and on the map the two are joined by the highway heading toward Pernambuco. The town itself is small and dense, with a clear centre and newer neighbourhoods spreading along the main approaches.
The countryside around it is open and rocky. Granite outcrops and boulder-strewn hills rise from the farmland, and the rocky landscape draws walkers from the wider Campina Grande area. Roads are few and direct, and between them the land breaks into irregular smallholdings, so the town looks like a dark cluster with pale, spacious ground all around.
