Radeberg sits a short distance northeast of Dresden, in the valley of the Große Röder. Outside Saxony, most people know the name from the Radeberger brewery, which has been making beer here since the late nineteenth century. On the map, the river runs through the town. The older streets gather near the water, and newer housing climbs the gentle slopes on either side.
The historic centre is a small cluster of irregular streets around the market square. Around it lie wider blocks of houses and industrial sites that grew with the railway and the factories. To the southwest, the forest of the Dresdner Heide leaves a large empty area on the drawing. It gives the dense streets of the town a clear edge.
