Redcliff sits in Zimbabwe's Midlands Province, just south of Kwekwe, on the high central plateau that runs through the middle of the country. The town grew around iron and steel. The ore came from nearby hills, and the reddish colour of the ground is said to have given the place its name. Housing areas, roads and industrial land make up most of its outline.
A Redcliff map poster shows the town's two halves: a residential street pattern of loops and short blocks, and the large, simple shapes of the old industrial site. The works of the Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company, known as ZISCO, once made this one of the main steel centres in southern Africa, and their scale still shapes the map.
Beyond the town the plateau is fairly open, crossed by roads and a railway that link Redcliff to Kwekwe and to the wider Midlands. That leaves the built-up area clearly framed on paper. It is a working town rather than a scenic one, and the poster shows it honestly, with industry and neighbourhoods side by side.
