Ripollet sits on the plain just north of Barcelona's Collserola range, in the Vallès Occidental. On a map it looks like a closely packed town squeezed between larger neighbours, with its edges almost touching the built-up areas around it. The streets are short and tight, laid down in phases as the town grew outward from an older core toward the surrounding roads and rail corridors.
The Riu Ripoll, which gives the town its name, cuts through this fabric as a thin, winding line. Along its banks the grid gives way to open ground, so from above the river reads as a pale ribbon between blocks of darker, denser streets. That contrast between channel and city is what makes the place legible even at small scale.
