Rosignano Marittimo is a comune in the province of Livorno, on the Tuscan coast south of Livorno. It is a municipality of several parts. The historic village of Rosignano Marittimo stands on a hill inland, gathered around its castle, while the coastal settlements of Castiglioncello, Rosignano Solvay and Vada stretch along the shore below.
Rosignano Solvay grew around a large chemical plant founded by the Solvay company in the early twentieth century. The planned company town still shows a regular street layout. Nearby, the coast includes the Spiagge Bianche, beaches known for their striking white sand. Castiglioncello, farther north, sits on a rocky promontory and has long been a quieter resort.
