Sầm Sơn is a coastal city in Thanh Hóa Province, in north-central Vietnam, and one of the country's best-known seaside resorts. From above, the town is shaped by its long, gently curving beach, with streets laid out parallel and perpendicular to the shoreline and hotels lining the waterfront.
At the southern end of the beach, the forested Trường Lệ hill rises close to the sea, and it holds temples and viewpoints that attract visitors alongside the beach itself. Inland, the land flattens out into fields, canals and the channels of the nearby river mouth.
