Satana is the headquarters of Baglan taluka in the Nashik district of northern Maharashtra, a farming area of onion fields, orchards and low hills. The town serves as a trading centre for the surrounding villages. Its map shows a dense, organically grown core with narrow lanes, surrounded by a looser ring of newer housing.
Main roads leave the centre toward neighbouring towns and villages, and development tends to follow them outward in ribbons. Beyond the last buildings the land opens into a fine mesh of field boundaries and farm tracks, with the hills of the Sahyadri foothills rising to the west of the taluka.
