Schwerin, the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is surrounded by lakes, and they define its map. The largest, the Schweriner See, stretches along the city's eastern side, while smaller lakes such as the Pfaffenteich and the Ostorfer See lie within or close to the centre.
