Shubrākhīt lies in the Beheira governorate of northern Egypt, on the Rosetta branch of the Nile as it flows toward the Mediterranean. From above, the river is the defining feature: a broad band along the town's edge, with the dense built area pressed close to it. Around them, the Delta's farmland spreads out in narrow, carefully divided fields.
Irrigation canals branch through the countryside, and roads follow them to nearby villages, creating a pattern of straight lines and small plots. The town has a place in history: in July 1798 the Battle of Shubra Khit was fought nearby, one of the first clashes between Napoleon's army and Mamluk forces during the French campaign in Egypt.
