Paddy field grid
Rectangular rice fields cover much of the plain in a regular pattern of thin lines, which fills the poster with a calm, textile-like texture.

Tanushimarumachi-toyoki Map Poster & Print
Tanushimarumachi-toyoki lies in the Tanushimaru area of Fukuoka Prefecture, now part of the city of Kurume. It sits on the Chikugo plain, one of the main farming lowlands of northern Kyushu. From above, the landscape is a fine mesh of paddy fields, irrigation channels and narrow roads, with houses clustered along older routes instead of packed into a single centre.
The Chikugo River, the largest in Kyushu, crosses the plain to the north, and a line of low mountains rises to the south. The ground between them is almost flat, so the map picks up the careful, rectilinear division of the fields, broken only by streams and the gentle curves of village lanes.
A Tanushimarumachi-toyoki map poster is a study in rural order. There are no grand avenues here. The interest lies in repetition and small variation, in the way each plot and path fits against the next. In the Classic black & white or Paper style, the result looks like a surveyor's drawing.

Irrigation channels
Narrow waterways cut through the fields and run beside the roads. Their slightly irregular courses soften the strict geometry of the farmland.
Settlement along old roads
Houses gather in linear clusters beside older routes, so the built areas show up as dense threads running through the open fields.
