Targówek lies on the right bank of the Vistula in north-east Warsaw, and its map mixes several kinds of urban fabric. There are large post-war housing estates with long blocks and open courtyards, older streets of low houses, and industrial areas along the railway lines that cut through the district. Wide arterial roads split it into distinct sections.
One of the largest features is the Bródno Cemetery, among the biggest cemeteries in Europe. Its huge rectangle of paths and plots shows clearly from above. In 2019 the M2 metro line reached Targówek, linking it directly to the city centre, and the stations along the route became new focal points for the district.

Large residential estates with long apartment blocks and generous green space between them fill much of the district. From above they form a repeating, modular pattern.
Railway corridors
Rail lines cross the district and separate its neighbourhoods. On the poster they appear as strong, slightly curving lines with industrial plots along their edges.
