Termas de Río Hondo grew around hot springs that rise beneath the plains of northern Argentina, and it is now one of the country's best-known thermal resorts. The town sits on the Río Dulce. Just to the west lies the wide Río Hondo reservoir, whose irregular shoreline dominates the map, and the streets form a regular grid between the water and the dry countryside.
Many hotels in town draw thermal water straight from the ground, and the spa season has long brought visitors from across Argentina. More recently the town has become known internationally for the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo, which has hosted MotoGP's Argentine Grand Prix. The looping track is easy to pick out on the map.
