Vidigal occupies the slopes of Morro Dois Irmãos, the twin-peaked hill between Leblon and São Conrado on Rio de Janeiro's South Zone coast. At its foot is Avenida Niemeyer, the road cut into the cliffs above the Atlantic. From there the community climbs steeply, and its lanes, stairways and alleys form one of the most intricate street patterns in the city.
From above, Vidigal looks like a dense, organic mass of buildings pressed against the rock. There are only a few paths wide enough to show up as roads, and the main one zigzags up the hill in tight bends. Above the highest houses the forest takes over, and a popular hiking trail leads from the upper part of the community to the summit of Dois Irmãos, with wide views over Ipanema and Leblon.

The cliffside road along the sea marks the lower edge of Vidigal. It connects Leblon with São Conrado and follows the curve of the rocky shore.
