Vinkovci Map Poster & Print
Vinkovci lies on the Bosut river in eastern Croatia, in the wide, flat plain of Slavonia. On a map, the Bosut winds slowly through the town, and the streets arrange themselves around it. Beyond the built-up area, long straight field boundaries and country roads run out to the horizon.
The town is regarded as one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Europe. In Roman times it was Cibalae, the birthplace of the emperors Valentinian I and Valens. Much later, Vinkovci became one of Croatia's most important railway junctions, and the tracks still form a major part of its outline.
Every autumn the town hosts Vinkovačke jeseni, a long-running festival of Slavonian folk tradition. A Vinkovci map poster brings together these layers: the slow river, the orderly town blocks and the broad arcs of railway lines converging from several directions.

Railway junction
Several lines meet here, and their long sweeping curves and wide yards create strong graphic shapes that are unusual for a town this size.
Slavonian plain
Around the town, the land is flat and heavily farmed, so roads and field edges run long and straight across the edges of the poster.
