Wāliṅ lies in Syangja District in Gandaki Province, in the middle hills of western Nepal between Pokhara and Butwal. The town grew along the Siddhartha Highway, and from above the main road is the obvious spine. Streets and buildings gather along it, and the land rises quickly into ridges and terraced slopes on either side.
The surrounding hills are farmed in steps, and small streams run down the valley sides to the river below. The town serves as a market centre for the nearby villages, and its shape follows the road and the valley floor, where the ground is flat enough to build on.
