Wayaobu Map Poster & Print
Wayaobu is the seat of Zichang County in northern Shaanxi, on the Loess Plateau. The land here is cut by deep gullies and ridges, and on a map the town fits into a narrow valley. Streets run along the valley floor, and the built-up area is long and thin, stretching wherever the flat ground allows.
Around the town, the landscape is a dense pattern of branching gullies, like the veins of a leaf. Roads climb out of the valley along side ravines, and terraced fields and small villages sit on the loess slopes. The contrast between the straight valley streets and the intricate terrain gives the map a strong character.
Wayaobu is known in Chinese history for the Wayaobu Conference of December 1935, an important meeting of the Communist Party leadership after the Long March. A Wayaobu map poster shows a valley town in the heart of the Loess Plateau, shaped almost entirely by its terrain.

Branching gullies
The surrounding loess hills are cut by countless gullies that branch outward, creating an intricate pattern that frames the town on all sides.
Roads up the ravines
Side roads leave the valley through narrow ravines, climbing toward villages on the plateau and adding curving lines to the map.
