Valley town
The built-up area sits in lower ground between hills, so its streets curve and branch instead of forming a grid. It gives the map an organic, flowing centre.

Xinsheng Map Poster & Print
Xinsheng is a town in the western part of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country of the eastern Sichuan basin. The terrain is rolling and folded, and on a map the town fits into the lower ground. Streets bend along valley floors, and roads wind between hills covered with terraced fields, farm ponds and scattered houses.
This part of Chongqing is agricultural, and the landscape has been shaped by generations of farming on slopes. Terraces follow the contours, and small reservoirs store water for fields. Towns like Xinsheng serve as market and service centres for the surrounding villages, and they are connected by roads that snake through the hills.
A Xinsheng map poster makes that landscape visible. The compact town centre, the curving roads and the many small ponds scattered through the countryside create an organic, detailed pattern. It is a map with little straight line and a great deal of texture, shaped entirely by the land.

Winding roads
Roads leading out of town follow the contours of the hills, turning and doubling back. They draw loose, looping lines across the composition.
Ponds and terraces
Small reservoirs and ponds are scattered across the farmland. On a monochrome map they appear as soft shapes that punctuate the landscape around the town.
