Yoro is the capital of the Honduran department of the same name. It lies in an interior valley surrounded by forested mountain ridges. The town is small and compact, with a colonial-style grid of streets around a central square and a church, and roads leave through gaps in the hills towards the rest of the department.
Yoro is known well beyond Honduras for the Lluvia de Peces, the "rain of fish". Most years, during heavy early-summer storms, residents report finding small fish on the ground after the rain, and the town holds a festival to celebrate it. The explanation is still debated, but the tradition has become part of Yoro's identity.
A Yoro map poster shows the town as a tight rectangle of blocks inside a much wilder landscape. Streams come down from the surrounding slopes and cut across the valley floor, and the roads follow the easiest ground. The difference between the orderly centre and the irregular country around it gives the print its character.
