Radiating glaciers
Glaciers flow down from the central ice through long valleys toward the coast. They give the interior a branching, radial pattern unlike most Arctic islands.

Bylot Island lies off the northern tip of Baffin Island in Nunavut. Eclipse Sound and Navy Board Inlet separate it from Baffin, and Lancaster Sound lies to the north. It is named after Robert Bylot, an English navigator of the early seventeenth century. Most of the island lies within Sirmilik National Park, and it has no permanent settlement.
The Byam Martin Mountains and a broad icecap dominate the interior. Glaciers flow outward from the ice through long valleys to the sea. On a map these valleys cut the island into radiating sections, and rivers, ponds and wetlands break up the lowlands in the south. The coastline is fairly compact, but the patterns inside it are unusually rich for an uninhabited island.
Those lowlands host one of the largest breeding colonies of greater snow geese in the Arctic, and the cliffs support large seabird colonies. Across Eclipse Sound lies the community of Pond Inlet, where many visitors first see the island’s peaks. A Bylot Island map poster brings mountains, ice and sea into one frame, drawn in fine, clean lines.

The channel between Bylot and Baffin Island frames the southern shore. Pond Inlet, on the far side, is the nearest settlement.
Rivers, small lakes and wetlands spread across the lower ground in the south. This finely detailed area is summer habitat for snow geese and other birds.

Aiheā Bylot Island
Bylot is often described as one of the most striking landscapes in the Canadian Arctic, and its map shows why. It suits travellers who have visited Pond Inlet and anyone who has worked or studied in Sirmilik. It also suits people drawn to northern mountains and ice.
Personalise the title and subtitle, add a date or expedition name, and set the coordinates line. Then choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir gives the glaciers a dramatic contrast, while Paper keeps the look close to an old chart.
