Emmerich am Rhein is the last German town on the Lower Rhine before the river enters the Netherlands. The map is organised around the water. A broad, gently curving Rhine runs along the town's edge, with a riverside promenade in front of the centre and the town spread out behind it on flat ground. Border crossings, rail lines and the motorway complete the picture.
The Rheinbrücke Emmerich opened in 1965 and is the longest suspension bridge in Germany. On any map of the area its span is a striking straight line across the river. The town was heavily damaged in the Second World War, so much of the centre was rebuilt. The church of St. Aldegundis stands near the riverbank.
An Emmerich map poster suits the wide, open character of the Lower Rhine. The river takes up a generous share of the frame, and the bridge links the two banks with a single firm stroke. The town's streets gather along the right bank. It is a print about water, borders and crossings.

A long promenade follows the riverbank in front of the town centre. Ships travelling to and from the Dutch ports pass close to the shore here.
The Netherlands begins just beyond the town. The map shows roads and rail lines continuing across the border without a break through the flat Lower Rhine landscape.

Aiheā Emmerich
Emmerich is a place of crossings, between riverbanks and between countries. That makes it meaningful for people with ties on both sides of the border. The poster can remind you of home, of a first job in the region or of a cycling trip along the Rhine.
