Halle (Westfalen) lies in the Gütersloh district of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the southern edge of the Teutoburg Forest. The ridge gives its map a clear orientation: wooded high ground to the north-east, with the town spreading out below onto the flatter land of the Westphalian lowland. Roads climb toward the forest, while the southern side opens into farmland and scattered settlements.
At the centre, a compact old core of irregular streets is surrounded by residential neighbourhoods, industrial areas and a bypass that curves around the town.
