Hobbs sits in the southeast corner of New Mexico, a few miles from the Texas state line, on the high, level plain known as the Llano Estacado. There are no rivers or hills to bend its streets, so the town looks as if it was drawn with a ruler: long north–south and east–west avenues, square blocks, and highways that run straight to the horizon.
The town began with a homesteading family, the Hobbses, in the early twentieth century, and it changed completely after oil was discovered nearby in 1928. Hobbs is still a centre of the Permian Basin oil industry. The land around it is marked by lease roads and well pads, which form their own faint geometry around the urban grid.
That strict geometry is what makes a Hobbs map poster striking. In black and white the grid becomes an almost abstract pattern, broken only by a diagonal highway, the sweep of a golf course or the open space of a park. Two colleges, New Mexico Junior College and the University of the Southwest, add larger campus shapes toward the edges.
Streets follow the compass points with almost no exceptions. The result is a clean checkerboard that looks sharp at every print size and especially bold in the Noir style.
Beyond the town, rural roads follow the one-mile survey grid of the American West, extending the pattern of the centre into wide, open squares of rangeland.
Lease roads and well pads around the town leave a light, scattered texture on the map, a subtle record of the Permian Basin industry that built modern Hobbs.

Aiheā Hobbs
Hobbs is the kind of place people come to for work and end up calling home, and oil-field families often move from basin to basin. A clean, geometric map of the town is a lasting reminder of those years and fits well in an office, a den or a new house.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the year you arrived, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital version costs $9 with no watermark, and printed posters on matte paper come with an optional wooden frame.
