Las Leñas lies in the Andes of southern Mendoza province, Argentina, in a high valley well away from any major city. The resort was built from scratch in the early 1980s and remains a self-contained cluster of hotels, apartments and lift stations on the valley floor. From above it is a small built area enclosed by steep, bare mountainsides, with a single road leading out along the valley.
Skiers know Las Leñas above all for its steep terrain. The Marte lift reaches high, exposed slopes with long couloirs and off-piste descents that attract experienced skiers from around the world.
