Nordenham lies in the Wesermarsch district of Lower Saxony, on the western bank of the Weser close to where the river widens into its estuary. The town stretches along the shore, and quays, industrial sites and port facilities line the waterfront. Residential streets fill the land behind them in a fairly regular pattern, and the whole town is protected by dikes along the river.
Across the water lies Bremerhaven, linked to Nordenham by a car ferry, and the wide river takes up a large part of the map.
