Portland sits where the Willamette River flows north to meet the Columbia, and on a map the Willamette divides it cleanly into west and east. Downtown, on the west bank, is built on unusually small blocks, just 200 feet on each side. They give the centre a fine, even texture and make it one of the most walkable street grids in North America.
A long series of bridges crosses the river, from the Sellwood in the south to the St. Johns in the north. One of them, Tilikum Crossing, carries transit, bikes and pedestrians but no private cars. The bridges earned Portland the nickname Bridgetown. East of the river the grid spreads for miles across flatter land, while the west side climbs into the Tualatin Mountains, known locally as the West Hills.
Forest Park runs along those hills and covers more than 5,000 acres of dense woodland, making it one of the largest urban forests in the United States. On clear days Mount Hood rises to the east, though it lies well beyond any city map. A Portland map poster captures the quiet logic of the place: small blocks, a working river and a green wall to the west.

Downtown's 200-foot blocks create a notably tight, regular grid, with more corners and crossings than most American city centres have.
A long, dark belt of forest across the West Hills forms the city's north-western edge. On the map it is a large empty area where the street grid simply stops.

Aiheā Portland
Portland attracts people who choose it on purpose, for the neighbourhoods, the food, the rain and the trails. A map of the city marks that choice. Put a neighbourhood like Alberta or Sellwood in the title, a moving date in the subtitle, and the house itself in the coordinates.
The river and forest look striking in Noir, and the tidy downtown grid is ideal for Blueprint. Classic black & white, Paper and Sand suit calmer interiors. Download six HD sizes for $9, from 30×40 cm to 24×36″, or order a matte print, framed or unframed.
