San Chaung lies in the Yangon Region of Myanmar, on the flat, well-watered land around the country's largest city. From above, water shapes the map as much as streets do. Creeks and channels wander across the ground, and roads and neighbourhoods are arranged around them instead of crossing them directly, so the plan has a soft, organic quality.
The street pattern mixes straight blocks with looser clusters of lanes, and open ground appears wherever building thins out.
