Sungurlu lies in the west of Çorum Province, on the high, open plateau of central Anatolia. The town spreads across gently sloping ground. Its older streets are tighter and more irregular near the centre, and newer blocks are laid out more regularly toward the edges. Around it, the landscape is broad and agricultural, with roads striking out in long lines toward neighbouring towns and villages.
For generations, travellers heading to Hattusa, the ancient Hittite capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, passed through Sungurlu as the nearest sizeable town. The ruins lie some distance to the southeast at Boğazkale. A Sungurlu map poster captures the town as a quiet regional centre on that historic route across the plateau.
The surrounding plains are known for grain farming, and on paper the fields form large, calm shapes crossed by streams and dirt roads. In black and white the town sits as a dense cluster at the centre of a spare, open composition. It is an understated, well-balanced map for anyone with a connection to Anatolia.
Sungurlu sits on the high central plateau, where wide rolling land stretches in every direction. On the map this openness gives the town a clear, compact outline.
The road toward Boğazkale and the ruins of Hattusa leaves the area heading southeast. It links the modern town to one of the most important sites of the ancient Near East.
Large cultivated fields surround the town, typical of central Anatolia's wheat country. From above they read as broad, quiet shapes crossed by farm tracks and seasonal streams.
