Tétouan sits on the lower slopes of the Rif, facing the valley of the Oued Martil a few kilometres inland from the Mediterranean. From above, the city has two very different textures. One is the dense, knotted medina on the hillside. The other is the straighter avenues laid out during the Spanish protectorate, when Tétouan served as its capital. Mountains close the view on the far side of the valley.
The medina is the part most people come for. It was refounded in the late fifteenth century by refugees from Andalusia and is ringed by walls and seven gates. UNESCO listed it in 1997. On a map its lanes read as a fine mesh with almost no straight lines, broken only by small squares and the footprints of mosques and old merchant inns.
A Tétouan map poster shows that contrast in a way photographs rarely do. In monochrome the whitewashed houses that earned the city its nickname, the White Dove, fall away, and what remains is structure. You see the tight medina, the broad Ensanche beside it, the roads running down the valley toward Martil and the coast, and the terrain rising steeply behind.

The protectorate-era extension beside the medina has wider boulevards and regular blocks, laid out in the early twentieth century right up against the old walls.
The river valley below the city carries roads and the watercourse east toward the Mediterranean shore at Martil. It gives the composition a clear line leading out of the hills.

Aiheā Tétouan
People who have walked the medina's lanes, or whose families come from the north of Morocco, often want the city as a single readable image. The poster keeps the walls, gates and slopes legible at every size, from A3 to 24×36″.
You can set your own title and subtitle, perhaps a family name or the date of a visit, and adjust the coordinates line. Then choose among Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand suits the warm tones of the old town particularly well.
