Te mape
Tongaat lies on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, less than an hour's drive north of central Durban, in a landscape of rolling hills long planted with sugar cane. From above, the town's streets follow the contours of the ridges and valleys rather than a straight grid, and the cane fields beyond appear as broad, softly divided shapes that sweep down toward the coast.
The Tongaat River runs through the area toward the Indian Ocean, its valley cutting a clear line through the hills. The town gave its name to the Tongaat Hulett company, whose sugar estates shaped the district for generations, and the land-use pattern on the map, with settlement clustered on higher ground and fields covering the slopes, still reflects that agricultural history.
Tongaat has a large Indian South African community, reflected in its temples, mosques and shops, and the area lies close to King Shaka International Airport at La Mercy, the main gateway to Durban. A Tongaat map poster brings together the town's curving streets, river valley and cane-covered hills in one calm composition.
Residential streets curve along the ridges and slopes rather than forming a strict grid, giving the town a flowing, organic outline on the poster.
The Tongaat River winds through the area toward the sea, its valley cutting a clear natural line between the surrounding hills and fields.
Broad cane fields cover the hills around town, divided by farm roads into large soft shapes that frame the built-up area and reach toward the coast.
