Venice lies on Florida's Gulf Coast, south of Sarasota. The Intracoastal Waterway cuts through the city, separating the historic downtown and beachfront from the mainland, so on a map the centre appears as an island between the waterway and the Gulf of Mexico. Bridges link the two sides, and the coastline runs in a long, clean line to the west.
The city was laid out in the 1920s to a plan by John Nolen, with boulevards, parks and an orderly street pattern that still shape the centre today. Venice is also known for the fossilised shark teeth that wash up on its beaches, which have earned it the nickname Shark Tooth Capital of the World.
A Venice map poster shows a place defined by water and planning. The waterway draws a clear line around the historic island, the beaches trace the Gulf edge and Nolen's boulevards give the centre a structured, open rhythm. It is a calm, coastal composition with a distinctive shape.
