West New York is a small town in Hudson County, New Jersey, built along the top of the Palisades cliffs above the Hudson River. From above it is a narrow, very dense grid, only a few blocks wide, pressed between the cliff edge and neighbouring towns. Boulevard East follows the edge of the cliff, and Bergenline Avenue runs through the middle as the main commercial street.
The town is among the most densely populated places in the United States. Its views across the river to Midtown Manhattan are some of the best on the New Jersey side. Below the cliffs, a newer waterfront has grown up along the river, with ferry service to Manhattan. The area has long had a large Cuban-American and Latin American community.
