Willenhall lies in the West Midlands, between Walsall and Wolverhampton, in the heart of the Black Country. From above it is part of a continuous urban area, with no clear edge between neighbouring towns. What stands out is the density: terraced streets, industrial estates and old routes packed closely together.
The area is threaded by the canals and railways that served its industries, lines that curve through the streets and link the town to the rest of the region. The M6 runs to the east, and parks and green corridors break up the dense housing in places.
Willenhall was known for centuries as the centre of the British lock-making trade, and the Locksmith's House museum preserves a nineteenth-century lock workshop. A Willenhall map poster captures that close-knit industrial landscape, where every street once had its workshops.
Close rows of terraced streets around the old centre produce a tight, detailed pattern typical of Black Country towns that grew around industry.
Canal and rail lines curve through the town, a network of long smooth strokes that once carried its locks and metal goods to market.
Willenhall merges with Walsall, Wolverhampton and neighbouring towns, so the map shows a dense urban field that runs to every edge of the poster.
