Wu'erqi is in the Hotan region of southern Xinjiang, on the band of oases along the southern edge of the Tarim Basin. From above, the map shows the logic of an oasis: straight roads lined with trees, irrigation channels, and a regular pattern of fields that ends abruptly where the water no longer reaches.
The oases of this region depend on meltwater from the Kunlun Mountains to the south, and they have been farmed for a very long time, on routes once used by the Silk Road caravans. The Taklamakan Desert lies to the north, and the contrast between cultivated land and sand is very sharp.
A Wu'erqi map poster captures this geometry of water and farmland. The settlement sits within a grid of roads and channels, and the pattern fades at the edges into empty desert. It is a striking image, very different from a typical town map.
Straight channels and field boundaries create a precise pattern around the settlement, showing how carefully water is distributed across the oasis.
Long, straight roads run through the farmland. They form the main lines of the map and connect the town to neighbouring villages.
At the edge of the oasis, the dense pattern of fields stops abruptly and gives way to empty land, creating a strong boundary in the composition.

This map is for people with roots in the Hotan oases and for anyone fascinated by how settlements survive on the desert's edge. Its geometric order makes it an unusual, graphic piece for a wall.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalized, and there are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand is a natural fit for desert country.
