Abovyan was founded in 1963 as a planned satellite town for Yerevan, in the Kotayk province north-east of the capital. On a map, its origins are plain to see. Large residential blocks and wide roads follow a deliberate plan that is quite different from the older villages nearby. The town sits on gently rising ground, with open land and hills beyond its edge.
The town is named after Khachatur Abovian, a nineteenth-century writer and educator who is regarded as a founder of modern Armenian literature. Its districts are arranged around main roads, with apartment blocks set back in courtyards and green spaces in between. From above, this produces a regular, rhythmic pattern of shapes, broken only by the lines of streets and paths.
The road toward Lake Sevan runs past the town and links it with Yerevan and the north-east of the country. An Abovyan map poster shows a Soviet planning idea made real on Armenian ground. It is ordered and spacious, with open country on its edges and the capital close by.
Apartment blocks are set in regular groups around courtyards and green spaces. On the map they form a steady, repeating pattern that clearly shows the town's planned origins.
Wide roads divide the town into distinct districts. These straight lines provide the main structure of the map and connect the centre to the outer neighbourhoods.
The highway north-east toward Lake Sevan passes the town. It is a long, confident line linking Abovyan to both Yerevan and the highlands.

For people who grew up in Abovyan, or who remember Soviet-era planned towns, this map is both familiar and quietly graphic. Its repeating blocks make an unusually architectural poster.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line, whether in English or with a family name and a significant date. The poster comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
